"THERE ARE ONLY SOLUTIONS." STEVEN A. YEAMAN

Audio Post Production

Dialogue Editing and Sweetening

Steven Yeaman started doing dialogue editing in 1989 when he was scoring a film that sounded horrible and he could not hear his music. So he started the road to dialogue editing first. Then he became very good at it. He did this 3 years before he did sound FX editing. To this day he oversees and edits every film he does. Cleaning up camera noise without affecting the tone of the dialogue. All kinds of hums, buzzes are no problem. There are instances, however, where we need to ADR, but only as a last resort.

ADR

Being a post production house we often have films were the sound is so bad, we have to ADR 75-100% of the film. This is when ADR performance and the way ADR is recorded is really where we shine. Our client’s films sound like production when we are done. Most people can’t tell.

Sound EFX

This is where we treat sound FXs like music. In 2006 We used a 5.1 fifth order microphone to record a battle scene. This was custom sound design and sounded like nothing short of amazing. We were the first ones EVER to record sound FX this way. We pride ourselves in creating unique sound designs from scratch to create a live vibrant feeling for each film. Even our ambience we record for each film. This is a lot of fun!

Foley

Foley is one of the most important parts in sewing up the seams. Foley adds the human element to the film. When done right, it makes ADR feel like production and good audio sound like you’re there. Good Foley is important to pass QC for foreign distributors. We pass QC usually the first time.

5.1 Mixing

This has taken me the longest to learn. But I’ve learned from some of the best. I have mixed over 25 films, 26 episodes for NBC, 25 commercials, 27 documentaries and 50 trailers. Mixing a film has to have a very subtle touch, the understanding of frequencies, understanding of EQ, compression, levels and the relationship between Dialogue, music, FX’s and Foley to bring it together to be one. The main thing in mixing a feature film is to be sure the story is told the best way possible.
